Victoria Werner, a nineteen-year-old college student, and her dog Chewy-Who are thrown 120 years into their past. They find themselves in the Werner’s homestead, built in 1873, where Victoria finds her long-lost aunt Mary Jane. Her aunt informs her of the family curse. The home will provide Victoria with one year of twenty-first-century conveniences on the inside. Then, she will die, and the next, Werner will suffer. However, the house remains the same in the 1800s.
Left alone in 1898, Victoria understands the only way home is by breaking the curse. Yet how? Chewy-Who may have the answer. He takes Victoria to an injured man, Denver, a ranch foreman. He’s passed out near a creek with claw marks across his arm and a hole in his leg. Victoria takes him to her home and heals him with her modern-day medicine. Victoria perceives Denver has fallen in love with her. Still, she cannot return his affection; too many secrets to keep. Sara, the witch’s daughter, realizes Denver is the man she’s been waiting for, and she’ll fight to win Denver’s love. Will she go too far? No longer able to deny her feelings, Victoria declares her love for Denver. Can she tell him about the curse in an age where witchcraft is the sign of the Devil? Victoria must navigate a different era, love, and deal with a ticking clock on her life.

Reviews for Love Kills A Curse
I enjoyed every minute of this great story. The idea of the house itself being a character was fascinating and unique. I felt the main character’s frustration at finding herself in a different time and in a place she couldn’t control where the house, being cursed, did unusual things. The romance was sweet, and the descriptions were excellent. Fabulous new author and top-notch read!
Tanya Ross.. Love the concept.
This is a well-crafted young adult novel that demands careful historical research to avoid time travel anomalies. Its well-turned phrasing suggests expert content and line editing that catapults this book to a top-notch achievement—unlike the run-of-the-mill published every year that aren’t worth the trouble.
The protagonist’s demonstration of forgiveness and consideration for the antagonists is a powerful model of loving behavior for young adults. This behavior eventually unravels the death curse her family was experiencing, inspiring readers with its positive message. Well done!
